What you should do before you travel to a new country

holi 2017Travel can be one of the most rewarding experiences that you have in this life. You have the opportunity to see new things and take a break from your regular routine. There are some things that you need to be aware of before you embark on your big adventure. When you’re going somewhere for the first time it never hurts to price out how much it is for an all inclusive package. There are many websites that offer package deals that include both flights and hotel. Combining the two can save you a lot of money. Check and see if the country you’re going to has any visa or vaccination requirements. It’s also a good idea to look up the average temperature so you know what clothes to pack. When traveling internationally remember that less is more. You don’t have to pack everything in your closet. (no matter how tempting) One rule of thumb is to pick an item that can go with two other articles of clothing. For example, a shirt that can be paired with a skirt or pants. Layers are your friend. Take the time to familiarize yourself with the main methods of transportation you’ll be using and the quickest way to get where you want to go. Asking the locals is a nice backup plan, but you want to have a map and some basic knowledge of the area. Google maps is great for this. Before you travel, you’ll want to get some money in the local currency and put a travel alert on your cards so you can use them if necessary. All credit cards have a collect number on the back that you can call if you’re out the country and something is awry.  Keep in mind that you can also use your card at a local ATM (with fees) and withdraw money in the local currency if you get in a bind. Cash is usually better to use across the board. Be aware of any travel alerts and register with your embassy if it’s recommended. Bring a bag that you can carry close to you (small and compact) as it will discourage pickpockets. Remember to stay alert at all times. Double check details like your flight times and accommodations and if you don’t sleep on planes a good sleep aid will come in handy. Have a great trip!
